Does approving a draft send the email?

Approving and Sending · Updated September 23, 2026

No. Approving a draft only accepts its text. With Outreach Autopilot off, nobody is emailed: you send it from your own inbox, then click Mark As Sent. With Autopilot on and a verified mailbox connected, the opener is sent for you on Autopilot's next run inside your Sending Hours, and each follow-up on the first run after it falls due.

What the Outreach Queue tells you

While Auto-Send is off, the Outreach Queue opens with an amber banner that starts Approving does not send. It explains that you send each approved email from your own inbox (Copy, Gmail, Outlook or your mail app) and then click Mark As Sent.

After you approve a draft, the panel under it says what happens next:

  • Approved, not sent. Legiit Leads has not sent this email. Send it from your own inbox, then click Mark As Sent so the lead's record is right. See how to send it and mark it sent.
  • Approved. Outreach Autopilot will send it from your connected mailbox, and the panel says when. There is nothing else to do: the page checks every 2 minutes and shows the email as sent once it goes.

If Auto-Send is switched on but no connected mailbox is verified and active, the Queue shows Autopilot is switched on but cannot send. and nothing you approve goes out until you fix it. See why Autopilot cannot send.

Draft, approved not sent, and sent

Each email in a sequence is in one of these states:

  • Draft: the AI wrote it and you have not approved it. Its day tab in the Queue shows only the day, for example Day 0: Opener.
  • Approved, not sent: you accepted the text, but it has not gone out. The day tab turns green and adds · approved, not sent.
  • Sent: it actually went out. The panel reads Sent from your inbox (you clicked Mark As Sent) or Sent by Autopilot with the mailbox it went from, plus the date and time. The day tab adds · sent, and the text can no longer be edited.

A fourth state, Skipped, means you chose Skip Touch and that email will never be sent.

The lead's card on the Pipeline sums this up in one line, for example 2 drafts waiting for approval, 1 approved, none sent yet or 1 of 3 sent, 1 approved not sent, 1 draft. Open the lead to see every email's state under Outreach Activity.

What approving does do

  • Adds the lead to your Pipeline in the Working column so it stays easy to find. It does not move the lead to Contacted. See why.
  • Counts towards today's send ramp. See the daily allowance.
  • Checks the lead's email address against its mail server again.
  • Records the approval on the lead's activity trail.
Auto-Send needs Agency Pro or Agency Empire. On other plans, every approved email is sent from your own inbox and marked sent by you. See which plan includes Autopilot.
