Why is my lead still in Working after I approved its emails?

Approving and Sending · Updated September 22, 2026

Because approving is not contacting. Approving a draft adds the lead to the Working column of your Pipeline so it stays easy to find, but the lead only moves to Contacted when an email actually goes out or you log a call. If you already sent the email from your own inbox, click Mark As Sent on it in the Outreach Queue and the lead moves to Contacted.

What moves a lead to Contacted

  • Outreach Autopilot sends one of its emails from your connected mailbox. That happens on one of its runs inside your Sending Hours, not at the moment you approve, so the lead can sit in Working until then. See when Autopilot sends.
  • You click Mark As Sent on an approved email in the Outreach Queue, after sending it yourself. See how to send and mark it sent.
  • You send the lead's one-off cold email from the Cold Email (personalized to this audit) box in the lead panel and click its Mark As Sent.
  • You log a call in Call Mode. Most outcomes move the lead to Contacted. 🔥 Interested takes it straight to Replied, and Not Interested moves it to Lost.

What does not

  • Approving a draft, with any of the Approve + buttons.
  • Copying the text or opening it in Gmail, Outlook or your mail app, before or after approval.
  • Skipping an email with Skip Touch.

Legiit Leads cannot see your sent folder. If you sent the email but did not click Mark As Sent, the lead panel still says the email was approved but nothing has been sent yet.

Move it by hand

You can also change the stage yourself:

  • On the Pipeline board, drag the lead's card into the Contacted column.
  • Or open the lead and click Contacted in the row of stage buttons at the top of the panel.

Moving a lead by hand changes only its stage. The email itself still shows as approved, not sent, so if you did send it, click Mark As Sent as well to keep the lead's record right.

Good to know

  • In the lead panel and in search results, a lead in the Working column shows the status New, and the panel shows ✓ In Pipeline.
  • The Working column is described on the board as leads you chose to pursue, and Contacted as email sent or call made.
