What does the #N rank badge mean and how is the map pack checked?

Google PageSpeed and Rankings · Updated September 23, 2026

The #N badge next to a lead's star rating is where its website ranks in Google's regular (organic) results for your search. It is green for positions 1 to 10 and amber below that. Each search takes one snapshot of Google's top 100 results for your keywords and location, then matches every lead to it: by website domain for the rank, and by business name for the local map pack.

How the check works

  • One snapshot per search. It is taken at the end of the search, just before it shows complete. The search text is your keywords followed by the first two parts of your location, for example plumber Tempe, AZ.
  • Organic rank. The snapshot reads up to 100 regular results. A lead's rank is the best position of any page on its website's domain, so a service page or blog post counts as well as the homepage.
  • Map pack. This is the block of Google Maps listings on the same results page. A lead is in the pack when its business name matches one of those listings. The match ignores capital letters, punctuation and endings such as LLC or Inc.
  • Every lead in the search gets a map pack verdict when the snapshot runs, including leads with no website.

Where you see it

  • Results table. The #N badge sits in the Rating column, after the star rating. Hover over it to read Organic Google position for this search.
  • Lead panel. In the Live Website Audit, a Google rank row reads, for example, #4 organic, with + map pack added when the business is also in the map pack. The row is green at 10 or better and red below that.
  • Leads with no organic rank. These get a Local map pack row instead, reading In the pack in green or Not in the pack in red.

How the AI uses it

When the AI writes an email, a sequence, a call brief or a pitch strategy for the lead, the facts it works from include the organic position, and note when the business is also in the map pack. For a lead that has a website but no organic rank and is not in the pack, the AI is told the business is not in the local map pack for its main customer search.

Good to know

  • The rank is a snapshot from when the search ran and is not updated afterwards. Run a new search for a fresh one.
  • The map pack check looks at one results page for one search. To see where a business shows on Google Maps from different spots across town, run the Map-Pack Heatmap.
