How do I correct a lead's business name, contact name, email or phone?

Steps

1. Open the lead from your search results or from the Pipeline.
2. Click ✎ Edit Details in the lead header, on the line with the phone number, website and email. The form opens with what the lead has now.
3. Change any of the 4 fields.
4. Click Save Details, or click Cancel to close the form without saving.

What each field changes

• Business Name: replaces the name on the lead, and emails you draft afterwards use it. It cannot be empty, and anything past 120 characters is cut off.
• Contact First Name: the person your emails greet. Emails use the first word of what you type, skipping a title such as Dr., so Dr. Jane Smith is greeted as Jane. The Decision-Maker section then shows the name with Entered by you, and any role and email Owner Hunter had found are kept. Clear the field to remove the contact.
• Email: where your emails go. A new address becomes the sending address, the one your drafts and Autopilot send to, and any other addresses on the lead move below it. It is checked against its mail server when you save, so the header shows (verified) or (unverified) for it. Clear the field to remove the current address: the next address on the lead moves up and is checked instead.
• Phone: the number shown on the lead and used by Call Mode. Clear the field to remove it. A lead with no phone number does not appear in Call Mode.

On the activity trail

Every save that changes something adds a line to Outreach Activity on the lead, for example Details edited by you: contact Jane, phone removed. Saving without changing anything adds nothing.

Good to know

• A new email address applies straight away, including to emails you already approved but have not sent yet.
• The text of drafts you already wrote does not change. If one greets the wrong name or uses the old business name, regenerate that email.
• Addresses are saved in lower case, with stray quotes or brackets around them removed.
