Why was my Edit Details change refused?

Contacts and Corrections · Updated September 23, 2026

✎ Edit Details refuses to save when the business name is empty, when the email is not a valid address, or when the email is a placeholder such as user@domain.com. The reason appears in a red box inside the form. Nothing is saved until you fix it and click Save Details again, and the form stays open with what you typed.

The messages and what to do

  • The business name cannot be empty. The Business Name field is blank or only spaces. Type the name. It is the only field that cannot be left blank.
  • That does not look like an email address. The address needs one @, no spaces, and a domain with a dot, such as name@business.com. Paste only the address itself: something like Jane Smith <jane@business.com> is refused, because the name and the space are not part of an address.
  • user@domain.com is a placeholder, not a real inbox. Enter the address you want the emails to go to. The message names the address you typed. It looks like a made-up example of the kind websites show as a hint in their forms, such as user@domain.com, yourname@yourcompany.com, john.doe@gmail.com or anything at example.com. Enter the real address you want your emails to go to.
  • Could not save. Saving failed without a more specific reason. Click Save Details again. Other problems show their own reason in the same red box.

What is not refused

  • Stray characters around an address. Quotes, brackets, commas and semicolons at the start or end of the address are removed before it is checked, so pasting "jane@business.com", or <jane@business.com> works.
  • An address whose domain has no mail server. It is still saved, but it is marked (unverified) in the lead header. Check the spelling of the part after the @.
  • Blank Contact First Name, Email or Phone. A blank field removes that detail from the lead instead of being refused. For Email, the next address on the lead moves up to become the sending address.
