What do (verified) and (unverified) next to an email mean?
(verified) means the email address is written correctly, is not a placeholder, and its domain (the part after the @) has a mail server set up to receive email. It does not prove that the exact mailbox exists, so a verified address can still bounce. (unverified) means one of those checks failed, or the lookup could not be completed.
Where you see it
- In the lead header, after the email address: (verified) in green or (unverified) in amber.
- In your search results, a green ✓ after the address in the Contact column means verified. Unverified addresses have no mark.
- In the Outreach Queue, a green ✓ after the lead's address.
- In a CSV export from Export CSV ▾ > Full Lead Data (Generic), the
email_verifiedcolumn readstrueorfalse, and is blank for a lead that has no email address.
How emails are found
- During a search, the audit collects email addresses from every page of the site it reads, and keeps up to 5 per lead.
- Addresses on the business's own domain are listed first, because a footer credit often carries the web designer's address instead.
- Things that only look like addresses are skipped, such as image file names and placeholders like user@domain.com.
- The first address in the list is the sending address, the one your drafts and Autopilot send to. That is the address that gets checked and marked.
See which pages the audit reads.
Why an address shows (unverified)
- Its domain has no mail server set up to receive email.
- The lookup failed. This can be temporary, so a real address can stay marked (unverified) until it is checked again.
- It is not written like a valid email address.
- It is a placeholder such as user@domain.com. Its domain may have a mail server, but it is never a real inbox.
When the check runs again
- When Owner Hunter finds the decision-maker's own address and makes it the sending address.
- When you save a new address with ✎ Edit Details, or clear it so the next address moves up.
- When you approve a draft for the lead, and again right before Outreach Autopilot sends. If that check fails, Autopilot skips the email and the address is marked (unverified).
