What does past_due mean on my plan?

Managing Your Subscription · Updated September 23, 2026

past_due means a payment on your subscription failed. The status next to your plan name in the Your Plan card in Settings turns red and reads past_due. You keep your plan's searches and features while Stripe retries the payment, but update your card through Manage Billing so you do not lose access.

How to fix it

  1. Click Settings in the sidebar.
  2. In the Your Plan card, click Manage Billing. The Stripe billing portal opens.
  3. Update your payment method there.
  4. When you are done, the portal sends you back to Settings.

Once the payment goes through and Stripe marks your subscription active again, the status changes back to active in green. See how to update your card or find your invoices.

What still works while you are past due

  • New searches, up to your plan's monthly allowance.
  • Heatmap scans, up to your plan's monthly allowance.
  • Agency Pro and Agency Empire features, if you are on one of those plans.
  • The searches meter at the bottom of the sidebar.

If the payment is never made

If the subscription ends up canceled, your account is treated as having no plan: searches lock, a banner reads Your account is not on a plan yet, so searches are locked., and Settings shows the plan cards instead of Manage Billing. See how to cancel your subscription for everything that changes when a plan ends.

Good to know

  • For comparison, a plan on its free trial shows free trial and a plan in good standing shows active, both in green.
  • Only the account owner can update the card. A team seat's Your Plan card shows just Your plan is managed by the account owner., with no status and no Manage Billing button, so ask the owner to fix the payment.
