How does the audit find social links, and what is No video presence?
The audit collects links to social networks from every page it read of the business's website, and the Social links row lists the networks it found. No social links means it found none. No video presence means it found no YouTube link and no embedded YouTube video, even if the site links to other profiles.
Where the audit looks
On the homepage and up to 3 more pages (such as the contact and about pages), it reads:
- every link on the page, including social icons in the header and footer,
- profile tags in the page code, such as the publisher and X (Twitter) tags,
- the business details some sites add for Google (structured data), which often list their social profiles,
- embedded YouTube videos, which count as a YouTube presence.
It recognises Facebook, Instagram, X (Twitter), LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok, Pinterest, Threads, Snapchat, Nextdoor, Yelp, Bluesky and WhatsApp, including short links such as fb.me, youtu.be and lnkd.in.
What you will see
- The Social links row lists the networks by web address, for example
facebook.com, instagram.com, youtube.com. An X profile is listed astwitter.comand a WhatsApp link aswhatsapp.com. - When nothing is found, the row shows Not found, or Not found (unverified) in amber.
- Hover over the row for the evidence, such as
No links to Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok, X, or Pinterest on 3 pages (/, /contact, /about).
The two problems
- No social links: no link to any recognised network on any page read.
- No video presence: no YouTube link and no embedded YouTube video. It can appear next to a full list of other profiles. Video from anywhere else, such as Vimeo or a video file on the page, does not count.
Found links are verified. A missing link is likely, or unverified when the site builds its pages with JavaScript, only one page could be read, or a page was too large to read in full. Finding other profiles does not make the YouTube absence certain, so No video presence carries its own confidence rather than borrowing it from the other links. An unverified problem goes into the Worth a look, not verified box and stays out of your emails, the proof page and the score.
Good to know
- The audit reads only the business's own website. It does not search Facebook, YouTube or any other network, so a business with a YouTube channel that its site never links to still gets No video presence. Check before you pitch it, and remove a wrong finding with Something not accurate? under Detected Problems.
- Google's PageSpeed check does not change these two findings.
