Why did a visitor see "Audit limit reached for this hour" on my audit link?

Your Branded Audit Link · Updated September 23, 2026

Your audit page limits how often one visitor can use it: 10 website checks and 3 full report requests per hour. Past those, they see Audit limit reached for this hour. Try again a little later. or Too many requests. Try again a little later. Nothing is broken, and the allowance comes back as the hour rolls on.

How the limits count

The count is kept per visitor address over a rolling hour, not a clock hour, so the oldest check drops off the count 60 minutes after it ran. A visitor who has used all 10 gets one back an hour after their first one.

This is counted per internet connection, so several people in one office or on one shared network draw on the same allowance. One visitor reaching the limit never affects anybody else, and it never affects your own searches or your plan's quota.

The 10 checks an hour are shared with the free Local Lead Grader. Somebody who has just graded a handful of sites there may reach the limit sooner on your audit page.

The other messages a visitor can see

  • Enter a valid website address. The address they typed is not a website. acme.com or https://acme.com both work; a business name, a phone number or a word with no dot does not.
  • That site's bot protection answered instead of the site, so nothing could be checked honestly. Try again later. The website is behind a security screen that answered on its behalf, so there was nothing real to check. Legiit Leads refuses to grade that rather than report a guess.
  • We could not reach that website. Check the address and try again. The site did not answer at all. Usually a typo in the address, or a site that is down.
  • Fill in your business name, your name, and a valid email. The report form was sent with something missing or an address that is not a real email.

Errors appear in red: under the Check My Website button while the visitor is still trying to run a check, and under the report form once results are on screen.

What to tell a prospect

Ask them to check the address and try once more. If they hit an hourly limit, they can come back a little later and the page will work normally. If their site is behind a security screen, run the audit from inside your own account instead, where you can see exactly what the audit could and could not read.
