Why did my search fail with an error?

Running a Search · Updated September 23, 2026

A search fails when Legiit Leads cannot get the list of businesses from Google Places, because Google could not be reached or refused the request. The exact reason is shown in a red box at the top of the results page, or Search failed. if no reason was recorded. These are platform-side problems you cannot fix from your account.

What the red box can say

  • Searches are temporarily unavailable. Email help@legiit.com if this lasts more than a few minutes.: the platform's own connection to Google is down. The same note appears at the top of New Search as Searches or AI features are temporarily unavailable on our side. Email help@legiit.com if this lasts more than a few minutes. There is nothing to change in your account, the fix is on our side.
  • A message that starts with Google Places API error, followed by a number in brackets and Google's own reply: Google turned the request down.
  • A different short technical message: the search stopped on an unexpected problem. Copy it and send it to us.
  • Search failed.: the search stopped and no reason was recorded.

What to do

  1. Copy the exact message from the red box, with the keywords and location you searched, and send it to us.
  2. Once the problem is fixed, run the search again from New Search.

A search that ends in an error still counts as 1 of your monthly searches, because a search is counted the moment it starts.

What never makes a search fail

  • One website that is down, slow or blocking bots. That business just gets a smaller audit, shown as Unreachable or Bot protection blocked the audit; nothing claimed if it makes your list, and the rest of the search carries on as normal.
  • The AI Invisibility Check and the Google results snapshot. If either cannot run, the search still completes without it.

Messages that stop a search before it starts

These appear in a red box on New Search, just above the Search button. No search is created, so nothing shows in Search History:

  • Keywords and location are required.
  • Your account does not have an active plan. Choose a plan in Settings to start searching. Every plan begins with a 7 day free trial.
  • You've used all 50 searches on your plan this month. Upgrade in Settings to keep hunting. (the number matches your plan)
  • This account's subscription isn't active (past due or canceled). Contact your provider to restore access. (only on an account an agency resells to you through SaaS Mode)

For the plan and allowance messages, see what happens when you use all your searches and why searches are locked without a plan.
