Why do the checks re-run when someone opens the proof page?

Sharing the Proof Page · Updated September 23, 2026

The checks re-run so your prospect sees their website as it is today, not as it was on the day you found them. Opening a proof page runs a fresh audit of the lead's website, at most once every 10 minutes per lead and only when the lead has a website, and saves the new results to the lead. If the re-check cannot be completed, the page shows the last saved audit instead.

How it works

  1. The prospect opens the link (or you click Preview). The page shows Running live checks on your website… while it works.
  2. If the lead has a website and its last re-check was more than 10 minutes ago, Legiit Leads audits the site again. Otherwise the page shows the saved results straight away.
  3. The results appear check by check, and they are saved to the lead, so the audit you see in the lead is updated too.

The time in the page header and the verified date in the footer show when the audit on screen was run.

What carries over and what changes

  • Google's PageSpeed score and phone screenshot are kept. The re-check does not run Google's test again, so they come from the earlier test.
  • Findings Google already verified stay verified. If Google's rendered load of the page settled a finding earlier, the quicker re-check does not undo it. The exception is a fix: if the re-check now finds something that used to be missing, the fix shows.
  • The problem list follows the new evidence. The lead's problems and opportunity score are worked out again from the fresh audit, so a problem the business has fixed drops off, and a new one can appear.
  • Findings you removed stay removed. Anything you took off under Something not accurate? stays off the lead and off the page.
  • The rest is not re-run. The AI search visibility result, the heatmap and the competitor comparison show the results from when they were captured.

If the re-check fails

If the audit cannot be completed, the prospect still gets their page, built from the last saved audit, and the lead keeps its previous audit results. The open itself is still counted and still alerts you. The next open after that tries again.

A website that does not answer is a result, not a failure. If the site is down when the page is opened, the page says Your website did not respond when we checked it, and the lead shows the site as unreachable until a later re-check finds it back up. See Why does a lead's website show as Unreachable?

Good to know

  • Your own Preview runs the re-check too; it just is not counted as the prospect opening the page. That makes it a quick way to refresh a lead's audit before a call.
  • Each re-check adds 1 to the Live audits count on your Dashboard. It does not use one of your monthly searches.
  • Re-checks run on every plan.
