Why does the proof page say the payment was not completed after the prospect paid?

Getting Paid · Updated September 23, 2026

When a prospect comes back from Stripe Checkout, their proof page asks Stripe whether the payment went through before it records the acceptance. Payment not completed yet. means Stripe had not marked that checkout as paid at the moment of the check. Reloading the page they came back to, once Stripe has settled the payment, usually clears it and shows the offer as accepted and paid.

How the check works

After paying, Stripe sends the prospect back to their proof page with a payment reference added to the end of the address. The accept button shows One moment… while the page checks with Stripe. If Stripe confirms the payment, the offer changes to an accepted and paid banner and the reference is removed from the address. If not, a short message appears in red under the accept button and nothing is accepted yet.

The reference stays in the address until the check succeeds, so reloading the page runs the check again. Reloading never charges the prospect a second time.

What each message means

  • Payment not completed yet. Stripe has not marked this checkout as paid. Wait a moment and reload the page the prospect returned to.
  • Unknown payment session. The return address does not match the checkout that was saved when the prospect clicked accept. The page only recognises the most recent checkout, so this happens if the prospect clicked the accept button again and opened a second checkout, if you edited and published the proposal again while they were paying, or if the address was cut short.
  • Payments not configured. No Stripe account was connected to your workspace when the check ran. Check the Get Paid card in Settings.
  • Payment setup failed. This one appears when the prospect clicks the accept button, not after paying. Stripe Checkout could not be started, so they were not charged and nothing was accepted. Stripe's own explanation can show in its place. Make sure the Get Paid card shows ✓ STRIPE CONNECTED · payments enabled, and click Finish Stripe Setup if it shows ONBOARDING INCOMPLETE.
  • Not available. The proposal on that page no longer asks for payment. That happens if you published it again as Signature only, or removed it with Remove Proposal, while the prospect was paying.
  • Payment could not be confirmed. The check did not get a clear answer. Reload the page to try again.

If the proposal was already accepted

If the page loads after the acceptance has already been recorded, for example when the prospect reloads or opens the link again later, it simply shows the offer as accepted and paid.

If Stripe shows the money but Legiit Leads does not

The acceptance is only recorded when the prospect's proof page gets back from Stripe and the check succeeds. If the prospect paid but closed the page before it came back, the proposal still shows as awaiting acceptance, the deal does not move to Won and you do not get the accepted and paid email.

  1. Confirm the payment in your own Stripe account.
  2. Move the deal to Won yourself on the Pipeline. See How do I move a deal between Pipeline stages?
Do not ask the prospect to accept again. Clicking the accept button starts a new checkout and charges the same amount again.
