How does the audit decide a site has no contact form?
The audit looks on every page it read of the business's website (the homepage plus up to 3 more, such as the contact, about and booking pages) for a real form a customer could use to get in touch. If it finds no such form, no embedded form service and no form plugin, the lead gets No contact form. When the site could be hiding a form from the audit, the finding is marked unverified and kept out of your emails.
What counts as a contact form
A form on any page counts when it has:
- a message box, or
- an email field plus at least one other field, such as a name or phone number, or
- 3 or more text fields.
Forms whose code marks them as something else are skipped: search boxes, logins and password forms, carts and checkouts, and newsletter or subscribe forms. So is a small form built around a search box.
The audit also counts a form that comes from:
- an embedded form service: HubSpot, Typeform, Jotform, Google Forms, Tally, Cognito Forms, Formstack, Wufoo, 123FormBuilder, Paperform, Fillout, Gravity Forms, Zoho or Microsoft Forms, or
- a form plugin, found by its code: Contact Form 7, WPForms, Gravity Forms, Elementor forms, Fluent Forms, Ninja Forms, Formidable, HubSpot forms, Caldera Forms, Forminator, Everest Forms, weForms or HappyForms.
A form found by its fields is verified. One found through a service or plugin is marked likely.
What you will see
The Contact form row in the Live Website Audit shows Found, Not found or Not found (unverified). Hover over the row to read the evidence behind it, for example:
Contact form found on /contactContact form via embedded form service (typeform.com) on /contactNo contact form found on 3 pages (/, /contact, /about); looked for form fields, embedded form services, and form-builder markup
When a missing form is unverified
- The site is made with a site builder (Wix, Squarespace, Weebly, Duda, GoDaddy, Webflow or Shopify). These can add forms as the page loads, so the evidence ends with
(site builder detected: forms may render at runtime). - The site builds its pages with JavaScript, only the homepage could be read, or a page was too large to read in full.
In those cases No contact form goes into the Worth a look, not verified box instead of Detected Problems. It stays out of your emails, the proof page and the score.
What Google's check can and cannot do
Google's PageSpeed check loads the site in a real browser. If an embedded form service loads, the form is marked found and verified. It can never mark a form missing: a plain form sends nothing while the page loads, so a quiet load proves nothing.
If a lead shows Not found (unverified), open the site and look before you pitch it. Nothing needs removing: the finding is already out of your emails, the proof page and the score. If the row shows Not found and you can see a form, remove the finding with Something not accurate? under Detected Problems.
