How often is a monitored territory re-scanned?
A territory is due for its next scan 7 days after its last completed scan, and the card shows Last scan with that date and time followed by re-scans every 7 days. Automatic scans are picked up by a check that runs once an hour, and only for territories that are not paused. You can start a scan yourself with Re-Scan Now whenever you have monthly searches left, because each scan uses one.
Working out when the next scan lands
Count 7 days from the Last scan date on the card. Because the automatic check runs hourly rather than at one fixed time of day, the scan starts within the hour after the territory becomes due, not at the exact minute it turns 7 days old.
A territory that has never scanned shows No baseline scan yet. Run one now. It counts as due straight away, so the next hourly check will start its first scan even if you never press Run Baseline Scan yourself.
Each scan you run by hand resets the clock, because the next scan is measured from the last completed one. If you click Re-Scan Now on a Wednesday, the next automatic scan is due the following Wednesday.
Scanning right now
- Open Monitored Markets in the sidebar.
- Find the territory card.
- Click Re-Scan Now, or Run Baseline Scan if it has never scanned.
The scan starts immediately, whatever the schedule says, and uses one of your monthly searches. While it runs, the card replaces the button with Scanning market… and the page checks for progress every few seconds.
Only one scan runs per territory at a time. While a scan is running the button is replaced by Scanning market…, so there is nothing to click until it finishes.
Paused territories are skipped
The hourly check only looks at territories that are switched on. A territory showing the PAUSED badge is left alone and does not build up a queue of missed scans. When you click Resume, it goes back into the rotation and is scanned on the next check if more than 7 days have already passed. See How do I pause, resume or abandon a territory?
Scans stop while your searches are used up
Every scan is a full live search and uses one of your plan's monthly searches, so a territory cannot scan once the month's allowance is gone. A scheduled scan in that state is skipped and tried again later, and Re-Scan Now is refused rather than starting anything.
That does not pause or lose the territory. Last scan stays on the date it already had, the alerts and history stay, and the schedule picks up again once your allowance resets on the 1st of the month or you move to a plan with more searches.
