Why does my city not appear in the Location suggestions?
The suggestions under Location are only a shortcut, so you never need one to search. If your city is not listed, type the city and region yourself, for example Manchester, UK, and click Search as normal. The search uses whatever text is in the box.
How the suggestions work
- They appear once you have typed 3 or more characters and paused for a moment.
- You see up to 6 suggestions from Google's list of cities. The list is not limited to the US. Each one shows the city name in bold with the region and country beside it.
- Picking a suggestion fills the box with the full text, for example
New York, NY, USA. - Click a suggestion with the mouse, or use the arrow keys to highlight one and press Enter to pick it. Press Escape, or click anywhere else on the page, to close the list.
Why your city may be missing
- You have typed fewer than 3 characters. Nothing is suggested until you reach 3.
- It is not a city. The list only offers cities, so a neighbourhood, county or postcode will not be suggested. You can still type it and search.
- Bigger places crowd it out. Only 6 suggestions show, so a small town can be pushed off the list by larger places with a similar name. Type more of the name, or add the region after a comma.
- Google returned nothing. If no suggestions come back, or the lookup fails, the list simply does not open. The box keeps working as a normal text box.
Put the city first
Write the city before the first comma, for example Leeds, UK rather than UK, Leeds. The part before the first comma is used as each lead's city, and it is the city the audit looks for in each homepage's title tag, so the Title tag row of a lead's audit can point out when the title never mentions it. The full text is also what Google receives, joined to your keywords as dentist in Leeds, UK.
